Not just another unique piece of jewelry. Its a LIFE SAVER. How'd you like to carry that around your neck for a change?
More than 1/3 of the world's population live in high risk Malaria zones. By 2010 it is projected to be half. Many destinations we once considered safe tropical vacation spots are now recommending taking Malaria pills when visiting them. It is getting closer to your own back yard than most people think. Currently, the only cure is prevention. Research for a vaccine is on going but not estimated to be available for testing for years. One person dies every 30 seconds from Malaria, more than a million deaths each year. Most of these deaths are innocent helpless children. $2.00 worth of medicine can save a life. Here's some easy math. 1 glass of wine = 3 to 5 lives. 1 necklace can save that many lives.
For each necklace sold, 25% of the profit goes directly to Worldwide Malaria efforts through Charity Donations. Our goal is to sell a million+ necklaces and change our donation retroactively to 75%.

Malaria Facts: Malaria is one of the most common infectious diseases and an enormous public health problem. It is caused by microorganisms from the genus Plasmodium. Five species of the plasmodium parasite can infect humans; the most serious forms of the disease are caused by Plasmodium falciparum. Malaria caused by Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium ovale and Plasmodium malariae cause milder disease in humans that is not generally fatal. A fifth species, Plasmodium knowlesi, causes malaria in macaques but can also infect humans. This group of human-pathogenic Plasmodium species is usually referred to as malaria parasites. The Plasmodium falciparum protozoan parasite is transmitted by mosquitos. The Mosquito itself does not have Malaria. It is just the unfortunate carrier of this often fatal disease. Each year more than 350 million cases of Malaria are diagnosed. There are over a million deaths each year. That’s one person gone, every 30 seconds. Most of the deaths from Malaria are often children living in poverty conditions in Sub Sahara Africa. It is widespread in tropical and subtropical regions, including parts of Asia, Africa and the America’s. Various health organizations now advise taking Malaria precautionary medication when traveling to certain regions of Costa Rica, Dominican Republic and even Mexico. The World Health Organization estimates that by 2010 over 50% of the worlds population will be living in high risk Malaria zones. It is no longer just a disease associated with poverty in third world countries. The bite of an infected female Anopheles mosquito transmits the disease to humans. The Anopheles mosquitoes must have been infected through a previous blood meal taken from an infected person. When the mosquito bites an infected person, a small amount of blood is taken, which contains microscopic malaria parasites. Approximately one week later, when the mosquito takes its next blood meal, these parasites mix with the mosquito's saliva and are injected into the person being bitten. The parasites multiply within red blood cells causing malaria. Symptoms include fever, chills, nausea, flu-like illness, symptoms of anemia (light-headedness, shortness of breath, tachycardia, etc) Severe cases can lead to coma and death. Although research is in progress (GlaxoSmithKline’s RTS project) , no vaccine is currently available for malaria that provides a high level of protection. Preventive drugs must be taken continuously to reduce the risk of infection. These drug treatments are often too expensive for most people living in high risk zones. Most adults from endemic areas have a degree of long-term infection, which tends to recur. Resistance reduces with time, and such adults may become susceptible to severe malaria if they have spent a significant amount of time in non-endemic areas. They are strongly recommended to take full precautions if they return to an endemic area. Malaria transmission can be reduced by preventing mosquito bites with mosquito nets and insect repellents or by mosquito control measures such as spraying insecticides inside houses and draining standing water where mosquitoes lay their eggs. Malaria infections are treated through the use of antimalarial drugs such as quinine or artemisinin derivatives. However, parasites have become resistant to many of these drugs. Therefore, in some areas of the world, only a few drugs remain as effective treatments for malaria. There are also many holistic, natural medicinal alternatives available. Some are claiming success but due to the legislated health regulations which stipulate passing extremely expensive testing they are not at liberty to disclose that information publicly. They said “The risk of being shutdown because they can not afford the costly drug testing fees to prove their success scientifically is not worth the risk of loosing the ability to save lives is just not worth going public over” May your spirit guide you to that which you need to be well. UNICEF, WORLD VISION and MALARIA NO MORE are a few of the main charities that bring aid to those in need. Together with the help of each other holding the vision for a Malaria Free World, supporting research and charity in whatever way each person can, we will succeed.
